要落山了，天空上飘满了火烧云。你看，那云千姿百态，像一条巨大的长龙在天空中环绕；像红色的大海，上面翻滚着美丽的浪花；还像一条红色的手绢，在空中飘来飘去；更像一簇簇红色漂亮的大鸡冠花……瞧！彩霞也像一群顽皮的孩子用红色的彩笔涂了上去；像踩着风火轮的哪吒在天空飞来飞去；那一朵朵更如火的云霞在不停地变化着，犹如璀璨华丽的火凤凰轻盈起舞，美轮美奂。太阳洒在云朵上，若隐若现，好像在和云朵捉迷藏呢！
在彩霞映照下绿草如茵，草像是给大地铺上了一层绿色的地毯；突然，一阵风吹来，草地被风吹动着，像风唱歌，草听着优美的乐曲，在伴舞呢，草地上有高低不平的小土坡，牛羊一会上了小土坡，一会又下来，好像给绿色的地毯绣上了白黄色的大花。这时，一阵悠扬悦耳的笛声让牛羊和其它的动物都吸引了过来。鸟儿扇着翅膀飞过来了，牛羊停止了吃草。只见有一位牧童头戴斗笠，身披蓑衣，手拿长笛，正依着一棵树遥望草原，翘着二郎腿……
忽然，草原上传来一阵悦耳动听的笛声，笛声随着徐徐的晚风，变幻莫测，时而近，时而远，时而清晰，时而模糊，若隐若现，云丝曼妙轻舞犹如天籁，天色渐渐晚了，牧童拿着鞭子轻轻打在牛羊们的身上，牛羊们都像听了命令一样，召集过来，回家的路上，牧童一会儿坐在牛背上摇晃着吹笛子；一会儿又下来捉捉蝴蝶，一会儿又数羊够不够，一会又逗逗水中的鱼儿。
到了家门口，早已看见妈妈已经做好饭在家等着他呢！牧童的肚子早已唱起了“空城计”他奔向家，斗笠不摘，蓑衣不脱，就拿起一个馒头，狼吞虎咽地吃起来。吃完以后拿起自己心爱的笛子回到原野上，躺在一块软软的草坪上闻到了青草的芳香，听见风吹着树叶“沙沙”的声音，看见几只萤火虫飞来飞去，和皎洁的月光，看着看着，他陷入了幻想，我未来还是一个放牧的，啊？星星上有人住吗？真想上月亮上和嫦娥玉兔玩耍；长大能成为一个音乐家吗？想着想着，他进入了梦想，梦见了长大后成了一位名扬四海的音乐家，和嫦娥还有玉兔在月亮上玩耍……诗人吕岩十分羡慕，不禁读起这首诗：草铺横野六七里，笛弄晚风三四声。归来饱饭黄昏后，不脱蓑衣卧月明。
