男子拼了命的挖呀挖、挖呀挖，挖呀挖。。。。。。终于，经过一下午的努力过后，井已经挖好了，这井无论怎么看都已经算的上是很深的了，但是水始终就是还没有冒出了。这时，站在一旁的青年男子好像已经有点不想再在这里继续挖下去了，于是他又去重新找到了一处更好的地方。其实，这位男子并不知道，如果他再继续挖下去，水就会流出来了，因为那些地下水离他将近只有一米深了。
第二天，男子来到了一棵十分茂盛的大榕树下边，他心想“这里应该会有水了吧，要不然这棵树怎么会长得这么茂盛哩。”说干就干，男子握紧了铁锹，一个劲的往土里挖，这次他所用的力气将近比原来高出了两三倍左右，因为他坚信，这次一定会有水的。终于，又经过了一整天的努力，井终于挖好了，可这时的男子以是大汗淋漓，但是井中仍然还是没有一滴水，这时，男子好像已经有些想放弃了。
傍晚，男子回到了家中，他把铁锹一放，就朝屋里走去了，“铁蛋！铁蛋！在哪呢？”男子嘶哑地喊着，只听隔壁邻居家传来了一声响亮的回答声“爹，我在这”男子立马循声走了过去，顿时的场景立马把男子给呆住了，男子一脸迷惑的问道：“哎？你家的水是从哪里弄来的？”邻居淡淡一笑，回答道“我今天碰上了好运，刚出门就找到了水源，我带你去看看吧”当来到邻居所说的那口井后，眼前的景象顿时间就让该男子后悔莫及了——这口井不就是昨天他所挖的那口井吗。
其实，只要男子稍微再继续坚持下去，就有可能能喝上一口清凉的泉水了，但由于男子的放弃，所照成了没水可喝的下场。这个故事也告诫了我们，无论做什么事，要想取得成功，就必须学会坚持，只有坚持，才会成就我们所要的结果。
