21世纪作为一个知识经济时代，对人才的要求越来越高，人们对人才的要求已经转变为对人的知识、能力、素质全方位的定位。而高中作为个人接受教育最关键的时期，是学生学习英语的最佳时期，但目前高中英语教育还是以应试教育模式为主，学生只是被动地接受知识，这严重挫伤学生的学习积极性，也在一定程度上给学生带来较大的心理负担。为了更好地满足学生成长成才的实际需求，高中英语教师应充分引导学生培养良好的学习习惯，掌握有效的学习方法，发挥自主学习的主观能动性，从而满足学生全面发展的实际需要。
一、高中英语教学现状
1.重理论轻能力
目前，高中英语教学还存在一个比较普遍的问题，那就是教师过于注重理论教学而忽视学生英语运用能力的培养。在平时的教学活动中，许多教师都将重点放在词汇和语法的教学上，而其他关于英语的运用能力的锻炼则几乎没有，包括口语表达能力、英语写作能力、英语交际能力等。同时学生对英语问题的思维能力也没有得到很好的锻炼，都是习惯于教师的灌输，但实际学习效果则显得尤为低下。
2.部分教师没有完全适应新版教材
随着教材版本的更新，教师的教学理念教学方式等都要进行相应的变动，但由于一些教师对新事物的接受能力低，思想比较顽固，因此对新教材还是不能完全适应，教学方式也没有进行相应的调整，在课堂上仍是按照原有的教学模式来授课。在进行英语理论知识的教学时，还是以自我为中心，忽视了与学生的英语交流，自己在讲台上大讲大谈。在英语运用能力方面，教师认为只要平时理论功底扎实，运用能力自然而然就会提升，因此干脆完全不顾运用能力的培养。
3.高考的原因导致的教学问题
我国近年来在高中英语教育方面一直推行课程改革，要求着重培养学生英语听、说、读、写的能力，但效果并不理想，主要是因为高考，许多学校仍在口头上大喊推行素质教育，但在实际教学活动中仍是以高考为中心地进行教学安排。同时教师对学生的考核机制也是完全以分数为核心，这不仅伤害了学生的自尊心，而且挫伤了学生学习英语的积极性。
