当今社会，高血压已经成为常见病和多发病，在我国发病率有逐年增高的趋势。高血压带来的心脑血管并发症给人们带来身体的痛苦和经济的负担。
面对高血压，很多人不知所措，认为只要吃了降压药就可以根治高血压，甚至有人只在感觉难受时才吃药。其实，科学地治疗高血压需要从生活习惯、饮食方式、精神因素、药物等多方面进行综合治疗，才能收到事半功倍的效果，否则会因为某一方面的不足而影响整个治疗。在这些因素中，我觉得饮食因素是高血压病人最容易忽略但又最容易改正的治疗。
只要您做到以下几点，就可以通过吃饭让高血压“低头”。
1.定时定量，少食多餐。吃饭不宜过饱，饭后适当活动。高血压多发生于中年人和肥胖者，吃饭七成饱可以减轻胃肠的负担，使体重保持在理想范围以内，这对控制血压和血脂的升高以及改善患者的自觉症状很有好处。
2.适当摄入低脂肪、优质蛋白质食物。每日脂肪的摄入不超过50克，在限量范围内选择富含不饱和脂肪酸的油脂和肉类，它们可能会减少动脉硬化的发生，对增加微血管弹性、预防血管破裂、防止高血压并发症的发生有一定作用。大豆蛋白可以降低血浆胆固醇浓度，防止高血压的发生发展。每周进食2~3次鱼类、鸡类蛋白质，可改善血管弹性和通透性，增加尿钠的排出从而起到降压作用。此外脱脂牛奶、酸奶、海鱼类等，对于降压也有一定作用。
3.限制含胆固醇高的食物。如动物内脏、肥肉、鱼子、蛋黄、乌贼鱼等。如果长期进食高胆固醇的食物，可能导致高血脂症，使动脉内脂肪沉积，加重高血压的发展。
4.提倡吃谷薯类食物。如淀粉、面粉、米、红薯等。特别是玉米面、燕麦、荞麦、小米等含膳食纤维较多的食物能促进胃肠道蠕动，有利于胆固醇的排除。少进食含单糖和双糖类食物，如蔗糖、果糖等，以防止血脂增高。
5.多吃绿色蔬菜和新鲜水果。它们富含维生素C、胡萝卜素及膳食纤维等，有利于改善心肌功能和血液循环；还可促进胆固醇的排出，防止高血压的发展。
6.多选用含钙高的食物。如奶制品、豆制品、海产品、绿色蔬菜等，对于血管有保护作用，并有一定的降压功效。
7.忌食兴奋神经系统的食物。如酒、浓茶、咖啡及浓肉汤等，可能加重内脏的负担，对高血压不利。
8.饮食要清淡，不宜太咸。这一点高血压患者应该高度重视。大量的科学调查表明，“吃得咸”或“口重”是导致高血压的重要因素。食盐摄入越多，高血压发病率就越高。因为如果人体摄入食盐(主要成分是氯化钠)量过多，就会造成体内水和钠潴留，而导致血管管腔变细、血管阻力增加，使血压上升；增加肾脏负担，造成排钠障碍，使血压升高；可能对抗降压药物的作用，影响降压效果。
正常人每日只需要0.5~2克盐就可以维持生理活动的需要，世界卫生组织推荐每人每日摄入6克盐是安全的。由于我国膳食方式的独特性，盐是创造美味佳肴的主要调味品，因此在我国的高血压人群中，限盐的任务就更加艰巨。根据膳食调查，我国目前每人每日食盐摄入量12~20克左右，远远超过了需要量的标准。因此，一般要求高血压患者将口味变清淡，每日限制食盐在3~5克。同时还应当注意，并不是只有食盐中才含有钠，6毫升酱油的含钠量也相当于1克食盐，所以在限盐的情况下，一定还要注意减少高钠食品的摄入，诸如咸肉、罐头、火腿、加碱发酵的食品等都应当限制。需要提醒的是，科学的饮食对降压有利，但是仍应作为一种辅助手段，而不能取代降压药物的作用。
