I only eat food that tastes good.
How important is keeping healthy to you? A group of young people got together to discuss this question. Here’s part of their discussion.
Peter: I’d like to stay healthy, but to be honest, I only eat food that tastes good. And if food tastes good, it’s usually bad for you, isn’t it? Cola tastes better than water, for example.
TONY: Well, food that is bad for you can taste good! But I prefer not to eat too much food that is fried, like, er, French fries. Do you eat fast food, Laura?
Laura: Do I eat fast food? Never! I love to eat food that is healthy. I want to take care of my health, so I eat mainly fruit and vegetables. Oh! And I stay away from sugar, you do too, don’t you?
TONY: Hm, yes. And I think most people are in agreement that fruit and vegetables are good for health. But, um, I would say that fast food itself isn’t always bad for you, but too much of it is not good.
Laura: Actually, don’t you know that it’s been found in laboratory testing (that some types of oil are really bad for us?) So I don’t eat anything that’s been cooked in oil. Also, did you know that some foods might cause cancer? Like burnt barbecued meat. I’ve heard eating burnt food like this can increase the risk of cancer.
Peter: Really! But I love to eat meat that’s well cooked, even if it is a little burnt. It’s delicious, and meat isn’t really dangerous, is it?
Laura: Oh! Yes, it is! I never eat meat. It’s not at all good for our health. If I were you, I’d eat nuts instead.
TONY: Well, I agree it’s good to eat lots of fruit and vegetables, but I think it’s also fine to eat some meat or fish. People (who eat a balanced diet) should be healthier than those (who only eat biscuits and hamburgers,) shouldn’t they? I prefer to only eat food that I like, but isn’t it important to eat food that’s healthy, even if you don’t like it? The main thing is to have a good balance.

——定语从句(the Attributive Clause)
Name: ______________ Class: ______________ No.:______________
引导定语从句的词叫关系词,关系词有:关系代词that,which,who(宾格whom, 所有格whose)和关系副词when,where,why。
The girl who is standing on the stage is my sister.
I can’t find the book (that) I bought yesterday.
Madam Curie was a great scientist whose name is known all over the world.
His father works in a factory that/ which makes TV set.
The coat (that/ which) I put on the desk is black.
The books (that/ which) they bought were written by me.
①定语从句所修饰的词,同时又被形容词最高级修饰时,定语从句只能用that引导;
This is the most interesting story (that) I have ever heard.
②定语从句所修饰的词,同时又被序数词修饰时,定语从句只能用that引导;
The children like the second Lesson that is about “The Football March”.
③定语从句所修饰的词,同时又被the only,the very或the same修饰时,
定语从句只能用that引导;
1) It is the only word (that) I know in the passage.
2) This is the same bicycle (that) I lost.
④定语从句修饰的词同时又被不定代词,如:all,any,no,every,little,many或much等修饰时,定语从句只能用that引导;
Here is all the money (that) I have.
⑤定语从句修饰词为everything,something,anything,nothing,all,none,much,little,few等不定代词时,定语从句只能用that引导。
Here is something (that) I will tell you.
I want everything (that) I want.
I can remember well the persons and some picture (that) I see in the room.
Is it the one (that) you want?
Who is the girl that won the first place?
1) The girl who often helps me with my English is from England.
2) The teacher who spoke at the meeting just now is having a rest in his office.
3) The boy (who/ that) I like isn’t here now.
① 先行词是one,ones,anyone时,定语从句只能用who引导;
② 先行词为those时,定语从句只能用who引导;
③ There be句型开头。
Who is the teacher (that/ who/ whom) Yanzhen is talking to?
Who is the teacher to whom Yanzhen is talking?
The building whose windows face to the south is our school.
