传统的教材观认为,教材的作用在于规范,即规范教师的教学和学生的学习,规范教学内容和教学方法。在这种教材观的影响下,教师的教学内容和教学思路都拘泥于教材;教师的教学过程就是将教材中的知识传递给学生。新课程改革要求教师改变原有的课程观、教材观和教学观,重新认识教材的本质和功能,创造性地使用教材。教材不再是教学中唯一的“法定文化”,教材的功能逐渐由控制和规范教学转向为教学服务。 新课程提倡“材料式”的教材观,即教材是教师教和学生学的材料,是教学资源之一,其根本特征是“范例性”。新课程的理念认为,教材是学生发展的“文化中介”,是师生进行对话的“话题”。师生进行的教学活动不是为了记住“话题”本身,而是为了通过“话题”进行交流,从而获得发展。教材内容不等于课程内容,教学的主要依据是课程标准。教师不能僵化地依据教材实施教学,而应从内容、结构、方法、进度以及资源整合等角度对教材进行创造性使用。课程改革的基本理念是:教育要以人为本,促进人的发展,要关注过程、关注发展。要体现这个基本理念,教师应该在教学中创造性地使用教材。创造性地使用教材 要求教师在充分了解和把握课程标准、学科特点、教学目标、教材编写意图的基础上,以教材为载体,灵活有效地组织教学。也就是说,对教材的处理,要在“调”“增”“删”三个字上下工夫。 一、教学顺序的调整 对教材进行取舍和调整时,教师首先要依据课程标准规定的课程目标,对教材作进一步的分析和研究,根据学生的认知规律,心理特点和教学的实际情况,可对教材内容的顺序进行适当调整,使其更符合学生的兴趣和能力需要,更加贴近学生的实际生活,以引导学生更有效地学习。 1.调整单元之间的顺序 单元之间的调整就是对各单元的先后顺序进行调整,这种调整可以将相关单元的内容进行整合教学,有助于学生更有效地构建知识体系;也可以将教材中某个单元的内容安排在与学生现实生活密切相关的事件的同时或发生的前后进行教学,例如,把Go for it 八年级下册第6单元How long have you been collenting shells和第9单元Have you ever been to an amusement park进行对调,先让学生学好现在完成时,再学现在完成进行时,就大大减低了难度;又如七年级下册第12单元的祈使句,根据话题相关的第2单元将其整合,通过合并整合教学,学生很快就掌握了祈使句的肯定、否定形式。事实上祈使句跟平时的生活、课堂教学相关,学生在不上第2第12单元之前就非常熟悉,通过两个单元的整合,学生就更加应用自如了。对单元教学顺序的调整,可以激活学生认知的兴奋点,激发他们对新知识的探求欲望,使他们牢固掌握所学知识。 2.单元内的调整 单元内的调整是指教师根据单元内知识的逻辑顺序,对教学内容作重新调整,从而更好地体现知识的系统性和完整性。如人教版Go for it 七年级下册unit 9 How was your weekend?本单元要求学生掌握一般过去时的特殊疑问句及其回答。一般过去时学生比较难掌握,学生对其熟练运用需要一定的时间和训练,如果学生对一般过去时只是一知半解,那么学生的听力部分肯定是听而生畏。为了避免出现这种局面,教师可将听力部分放后,先让学生弄清一般过去时,接着教师讲授Section A 部分 的1a、1c、2a、2c内容,并加以训练。再来上听力部分,这样学生听起来就容易多了。section B部分的教学根据学生的实际来定。 二、拓展和补充教学内容 当前,中学英语课堂教学有重“精”轻“泛”的倾向,可理解性语言的输入量十分有限,这严重制药了学生语言运用能力的发展,因此,教师应根据需要对教材内容进行延伸和适当的补充,依据学生的实际水平适当扩展相关教学内容。人教版Go for it 七年级下册第4单元Section A 部分中涉及了有关职业的名词,学生来自于不同的家庭,教师可以提前做调查,了解学生家长所从事的职业,在课堂上适当扩展词汇,之后让学生介绍自己父母的情况,这样,学生就能够在较为真实的语境中运用英语,也可利用学生身边发生的事情对教材内容进行补充,这不仅可以丰富教学内容,而且可以提高学生的学习兴趣,端正学生的学习动机。随着现代教育技术的发展,如今的教材早已不限于教科书,而是涵盖了包括广播电视节目、音像资料、多媒体光盘、各种形式的网络资源以及报纸杂志等其他课程资源。教师要帮助学生从“本本”学习中走出来,设法丰富教学资源。教师要充分利用这些资源,采用不同形式让学生亲身感受和体验语言及其运用,拓宽学生的学习和应用渠道,提高学生的学习积极性,让学生从单一的记忆、接受、模仿的被动学习,发展到积极收集和处理信息、获取新知识、分析解决问题以及交流与合作的能力培养上来,从而切实提高学生的英语水平。 三、删减教学内容 新课标指出:教师在教学中,要创造性地使用教材,特别要对教材进行适当的取舍和调整,删减包括材料数量和质量的缩减。有些同类型的练习数量过多,则可省去一部分,如果不仅要缩减材料数量,还对其进行教学方法的处理,那么就是质量的缩减,即调整教学要求,教材Go for it七年级下册第三单元Section B 中This is…句型多次出现。这个句型学生在上册第三单元就学过而且非常熟悉,如果教师不根据学生实际,仍然按部就班,这会使学生感到厌烦,影响学生学习的积极性。遇到此类情况,可以采用“省略法”。 四、教材取舍和调整的本质 教材作为课程资源的核心部分,承载着课程设计者的课程理念。从某种意义上说,教材是课程改革的“代言人”。但无论教材编写得如何尽善尽美,其内容和结构都蕴涵着整齐划一的教育需求,无法满足教学多样化和个性化的需要。教师只有对教材有所取舍和调整,才能提高教材对具体教育情景的适用性。Mc-Donough和Shaw(1993)在谈到英语教材的取舍和调整问题时,提出了外部因素和内部因素的概念,并以此作为对教材进行取舍和调整的出发点。外部因素主要是指教学情景特点,如学习者特点、教学环境、教学资源和班级规模等;内部因素主要是指教材的内容和组织,如话题内容、覆盖的技能、语言水平和练习分级等。对教材进行取舍和调整本质上是一个“匹配”的过程,即改变教科书的内部特征,使其更加符合特定情景的教学需要。Madsen和Bowen(1978)将这种“匹配”称为“适合”原则,即“教材、教法、学生、课程目标、目标语及其语境、教师的个性和教学风格等几个相关变量之间的适合性”。也就是说,教材本身可能是连贯和紧凑的,但不一定完全适合某个具体教学情景的需要;反之,教材的结构可能存在不协调的方面,但却可能具有更大的适应性。 另外,教师最了解具体的教学情景,了解学生的个性、能力、兴趣和需要,在如何正确和灵活地处理教材的问题上最有发言权。即使在传统的教学中,教师也不是完全“复制”教材,总是或多或少地对教材进行适当的改造,其目的是使教材和教育情景相互适应,使课程更符合学生的实际;同时也更能彰显教学的个性和体现课程实施的差异性。 教师对教材的取舍和调整实际上是通过对教材的解读正确理解课程意义的过程。在这个过程中,教师、教材和学生之间形成了一种真正意义的“对话”,教师的教学过程就是这三者之间不断“对话”的过程,其中主要是教师与教材编写者的“对话”。教师一方面要解读教材预设的目的和功能,同时也要结合自己的经验、认识以及具体的教学情景对教材进行调整和取舍。当然,“对话”不仅限于教师与教材编写者之间,学生与教材编写者、教师与学生、学生与学生之间也存在“对话”空间。教材不是绝对的权威,教师也不是被动的传授者。学生不是被动接受知识的容器,他们是带着自己已有的知识和经验走进课堂的,教师要善于接纳来自学生的不同见解,倾听他们的不同声音。这样,学生才能在课程实施中真正从“边缘”走向“中心”。 创造性地使用教材是教学内容与教学方式综合优化的过程,是课程标准、教材内容与学生生活实际相联系的结晶,是老师智慧与学生创造力的有效融合。只有创造性地使用教材,才可能实现教学内容与教学方法、手段的完善统一,才能使教材的普遍性同本地区教学实践的特殊性实现有机结合,才能最大限度地满足学生对学习内容、教学方法的需求,充分调动教学双方的积极性,提高教学效率。
