说说我的理解

主语：Few things 谓语：could be more impressive 宾语：the peace

后面一堆都是修饰the peace 的定语从句。

什么样的peace呢？the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends 在周末降临在城市街道的peace

weekends发生了什么呢？when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country. 当大家都回乡下去了（随便翻译的，意思明白就好）。

把握好这几点，理解就很容易：没有什么比（当周末大家都回乡下的家去，而在城市街道降临的）那种宁静更令人难忘。

41课 very.是“It is not very heavy.”的省略形式，常用于口语中a pieice of,一块，一张，一片，用在不可数名词前，表示数量，又如：a piece of bread,一片面包。43课make the tea,沏茶over there是指“在那边”，指比较远的地方。在there are some in the cupboard中，some是代词，指some cups.hurry up,赶快，在祈使句中用来催促他人。45课Can you come here a minute piease,Bob?句中的can是情态动词，表示能力。情态动词的否定式由情态动词加not构成；疑问句中情态动词至于句首，后接句子和主要谓语动词。47课Doyou want a cup?句中的a cup后面省略了of coffee.英语中的动词主要有及物动词和不及物动词两大类，及物动词后面要有名词或名词性短语作宾语。like和want都是及物动词。biack coffee是指不加牛奶或咖啡伴侣的咖啡，加牛奶的咖啡叫white coffee。49课I like lamb，but my husband dosen’t.句中的dosen‘t后面省略了like lamb。用but连接的并列句，在后一分句中可以省略与前一分句中相同的谓语动词和宾语。51课Where do you come from？用于问对方是哪儿的人，在第7课中出现过一个类似的句子。What’s the climate likein your country？句中like是介词，不是动词，它的宾语是what。53课略55课带某人去xx take sb to xx57课It is o'clock.现在是8点钟。在英语中常用it来指时间、天气、温度、或距离。这种it被称为“虚主语”。59课要注意动词的变化61课What’s the matter with...常用来询问人或事物的状况，常作“是否有问题”“是否有麻烦”讲。以上是41~62课的单数课文 双数课文省略。

Nearly a week passed before the girl was able to explain what had happened to her.One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water. During that time she covered a distance of eight miles. Early next morning, she saw a light ahead. She knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen. That was all she remembered. When she woke up a day later, she found herself in hospital.
