My favourite season
Most people think winter is a sad season. As birds fly away, animals start sleeping and the temperature is below zero. But in fact, winter is a colourful season. Winter makes me think of many exciting festivals, such as Christmas and Spring festival. Spring festival is my favourite festival.Because we can have many kinds of traditional new year foods. As a child, l can get a lot of lucky money. Most of all, it is a time when families gather together and wait for the clock to tick the moment.
Each season is a creation of god, we should enjoy it. Isn't winter a wonderful season?
My opinion about leaning English
Firstly, it's very important to listen to the teacher carefully in class and make some notes so that you can go over your lessons later. Secondly, try to catch every chance to practice speaking, both in and out of class. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Then try to listen and read more in Chinese. What's more, you'd better plan your time well and study it regularly every day.
Above all, you should be confident in yourself and don't give up whenever you meet with difficulty. I'm sure you will succeed through your hard work.
With the general standard of living improving and the working week becoming shorter, more and more people are able to make a holiday trip to places of interest. While many like to join package tours fro convenience, I prefer to travel on my own.
having lunch at school
We know that some of our students do not like having lunch at school because the food isn』 delicious. So they often go out of school to buy something which they like to eat. But I』m afraid that it』s bad for their health to eat lunch outside the school, because some of the food they buy isn』t healthy enough. In my opinion, students should have lunch at school. if our schools want more students to be back and enjoy lunch inside, they should make the food more delicious, and also they should offer our students a larger choice of food as well.
Protecting the Forests and the Animals
Now in some places of our country, a number of people have been cutting down the trees in the forests because they need wood and more farmland. The areas of forests are getting smaller and smaller. Some scientists say that there will be no vast forests in 20 or 30 years. It is really a terrible thing. Where the forests disappear, st storms will occur occasionally. The weather will get hot and dry. The whole earth will become a big desert. A lot of plants and animals will disappear.Crops will not grow anywhere. Life will be difficult for everyone. The human beings will be punished for their forest-destroying activities. Therefore, we should realize the importance of taking care of our forests. We should do our best to protect our living environment and keep our mountains green, the water clean, and the sky blue.

The Sahara Desert, formed about 2.5 million years ago。
is the second largest desert in the world after Antarctica and the largest sandy desert in the world.
It covers an area of 9.06 million square kilometers and is located in northern Africa.
The climate in this area is very harsh, and it is one of the most unsuitable places on earth for living things.
"Sahara" is an Arabic transliteration. In Arabic, "Sahara" is a great desert. It originates from the Tuareg language of the local nomadic people, which means "great desert".
arid region, usually partly covered by sand, having scanty vegetation or sometimes almost none, and capable of supporting only a limited and specially adapted animal population. The so-called cold deserts, caused by extreme cold and often covered with perpetual snow or ice,are quite distinct from the deserts of warm regions; cold deserts cover about one sixth of the world's surface. It is estimated that warm deserts form about one fifth of the land surface of the world.
The Desert Environment
An area having an annual rainfall of 10 in.(25 cm) or less is considered to be a desert. Some deserts have no rain for intervals of several years.Deserts and semideserts exist in some regions having up to about 20 in.(50 cm) of rainfall where evaporation is very high and loss by runoff is great. The largest desert regions of the world lie between 20° and 30° north and south of the equator, either where mountains intercept the paths of the trade winds or where atmospheric high-pressure areas cause descending air currents and a lack of precipitation.Other factors contributing to the formation of deserts include the amount of sunshine, rate of evaporation of water, and range of temperature.Temperature ranges in deserts are often extreme.
Plants of the desert have leaves and stems adapted to lessen their loss of water, and indivial plants are more widely spaced than those in more humid regions; their roots form a spreading network sometimes penetrating to 50 ft (15 m) underground.Among the animals living in deserts of North America are species of squirrels, mice, bats, foxes, rabbits, and deer; reptiles,e.g.,the Arizona coral snake, species of rattlesnakes, the desert tortoise, and the horned toad, gila monster, and many other lizards; a number of birds,e.g.,the cactus wren, the road runner, species of owls, sparrows, and hawks; and spiders, scorpions, termites, and beetles.
Do you think of a desert as a hot, dry place where sand stretches as far as you can see? The Sahara in North Africa is like that, but most deserts are not. All deserts are dry, but some deserts are very cold. Plants and animals live in most deserts. People have learned to live in deserts all over the world.
Most deserts form because of air movements over the planet. Masses of dry air create deserts. For example, deserts can form where air currents go over mountains. Water gets squeezed out of the air as it passes over the mountains, and a desert forms on the other side of the mountains. Deserts can also form along some seacoasts where there are currents of cold water. There are two main bands of desert areas, one north of the equator and one south of the equator. The equator is an imaginary line that goes around Earth』s middle.

There are vast areas of land on every continent where there is no rainfall or vegetation. It is estimated that more than 40 per cent of the land on the earth's surface is desert or desert-like. What is worse, these deserts are spreading at a surprising rate every year. If this trend continues, sand will bury almost everything in the near future. Two reasons account for the fact that deserts are spreading. The first reason comes from nature. These areas are usually located in the far inner land where rainfall can never reach. The second reason comes from man himself. Many people regard immediate profit as a supreme value, which results in over-grazing, poor farming, tree cutting, and strip mining. All these activities leave land unprotected. Consequently, rain water washes away topsoil into rivers and oceans, wind blows away loose soil. The expansion of deserts must be stopped if we are to survive on this planet. Man can make deserts, he can also prevent them from spreading. Stopping over grazing, poor farming, tree cutting, and strip-mining is the first step. Planting a green belt of trees along the edge of deserts is the second step. Covering the deserts with vegetation is another step. We hope man can make great efforts to develop better ways to bring the spreading deserts under control.

Desertification
Desertification is becoming a serious problem in recent years. A table shows the trend of desertification in a region in two aspects. According to the table, area of 560 square kilometers was deserted in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the area of desertification took a leap to 810 square kilometers. In the following ten years, the number raised more slowly than the first ten years. The area of deserted land finally reached 980 square kilometers. The table also shows the frequency of sandstorms in the region. From 1980s to 1990s, the frequency of sandstorms raised sharply. Because the area of desertification took a turn to rise slowly, the frequency went up to 16, by about 30 percent only.
Desertification is obviously an international problem now. It is caused by the decrease of woods and vegetation. The water in the ground is kept by the plants, so the land may turn to desert without enough plants. Desertification can cause bad weather like sandstorms and even change the climate of a region. And it also destroys the variety of plants and animals.
So far there has not been an effective way to solve the problem completely. But there are many things humans can do to prevent the desertification from becoming more serious. Planting more trees or stopping cutting down woods would work. There is a long way to go
