21世紀作為一個知識經濟時代，對人才的要求越來越高，人們對人才的要求已經轉變為對人的知識、能力、素質全方位的定位。而高中作為個人接受教育最關鍵的時期，是學生學習英語的最佳時期，但目前高中英語教育還是以應試教育模式為主，學生只是被動地接受知識，這嚴重挫傷學生的學習積極性，也在一定程度上給學生帶來較大的心理負擔。為了更好地滿足學生成長成才的實際需求，高中英語教師應充分引導學生培養良好的學習習慣，掌握有效的學習方法，發揮自主學習的主觀能動性，從而滿足學生全面發展的實際需要。
一、高中英語教學現狀
1.重理論輕能力
目前，高中英語教學還存在一個比較普遍的問題，那就是教師過於注重理論教學而忽視學生英語運用能力的培養。在平時的教學活動中，許多教師都將重點放在詞彙和語法的教學上，而其他關於英語的運用能力的鍛煉則幾乎沒有，包括口語表達能力、英語寫作能力、英語交際能力等。同時學生對英語問題的思維能力也沒有得到很好的鍛煉，都是習慣於教師的灌輸，但實際學習效果則顯得尤為低下。
2.部分教師沒有完全適應新版教材
隨著教材版本的更新，教師的教學理念教學方式等都要進行相應的變動，但由於一些教師對新事物的接受能力低，思想比較頑固，因此對新教材還是不能完全適應，教學方式也沒有進行相應的調整，在課堂上仍是按照原有的教學模式來授課。在進行英語理論知識的教學時，還是以自我為中心，忽視了與學生的英語交流，自己在講台上大講大談。在英語運用能力方面，教師認為只要平時理論功底扎實，運用能力自然而然就會提升，因此乾脆完全不顧運用能力的培養。
3.高考的原因導致的教學問題
我國近年來在高中英語教育方面一直推行課程改革，要求著重培養學生英語聽、說、讀、寫的能力，但效果並不理想，主要是因為高考，許多學校仍在口頭上大喊推行素質教育，但在實際教學活動中仍是以高考為中心地進行教學安排。同時教師對學生的考核機制也是完全以分數為核心，這不僅傷害了學生的自尊心，而且挫傷了學生學習英語的積極性。
