I used to think Beijing must be a grand and special city, given that it was the
capital of China, and lots of events I have heard took place there. But soon after I got off the plane, I knew all was but my illusion. If I had to use one wordto describe it, nothing but 「grey」 will fulfil the task. As far as your eyes
could see, all was covered in st and haunted by air pollution.

Though it was the first time I had been to the North part of China, I was still
surprised by the sharp contrast between the South and North. It wasn't hearsay.
Plane shortened the distance and time between two places, and made the difference of Shanghai and Beijing even more obvious. My friend had been to Beijing before, still, he was amazed after the four-day trip.

When he first landed in Beijing, the first impression this city left on him was

walked on the small lanes interspersed almost at every part of this city, I saw
a life style that was, in a way, similar to the time when people used coal home

China condemns fisherman's death

China strongly condemned the Philippines' "barbaric" fatal shooting of a 65-year-old fisherman from Taiwan on Thursday, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Friday.

"We strongly urge again that the Philippines investigate the case immediately and handle the issue properly. We will keep a close watch on the development of the incident," said Hua Chunying, spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a daily news conference.

China expressed deep concern over the Philippines' repeated attacks against unarmed fishermen, Hua said.

"We wish to express deep grief over the death of the Taiwan fisherman and give condolences to the victim's family," Hua said.

Responding to a Philippine news report stating that some Chinese vessels were spotted near Ren'ai Jiao, Hua said China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and their adjacent waters.

The shooting occurred at about 10 am on Thursday in an area about 160 nautical miles southeast of the southernmost tip of the island of Taiwan, according to Taiwan's coast guard authority.

The victim was identified as 65-year-old Hung Shih-cheng. Four seamen were on the boat, the Guang Ta Hsin 28. The other three — the victim's son, his son-in-law and an Indonesian fisherman —were all injured, the Beijing Times reported.

The Philippine vessel fired nearly 40 shots at the fishing boat.

After killing the fisherman, the Philippine armed vessel continued to chase and fire at the fishing boat for another hour and a half, according to reports carried by Taiwan media outlets.

Volleyball that is a less popular sport than basketball and football, while more skillful is my favorite ball game. The game was invented in 1895 as a recreational pastime by American William G. Morgan, the physical ecation director of the Young Men's Christian Association chapter in Massachusetts. His game, which he originally called Mintonette, quickly became popular, not only in the United States but also around the world.

As everyone knows, in the indoor game, each team has six players and points are scored by successfully landing the ball in the court of the opponents without it being returned successfully. The reason why I said volleyball is a more skillful game is each skill in this game, including serving, spiking blocking and tossing, must be well trained, otherwise you can hardly play the game, even be attacked.

Now that volleyball is a difficult sport, you must feel strange why I have the weakness for this high-technique one. I think, I am fond of this sport for three reasons at least. To start with, every spike will make me excited frequently. Second, cooperation in this sport always bring me happiness and successful sense that is a kind of spirit enjoyment. Third, achievements made by Chinese women volleyball team inspired me so much. Especially, this team won the gold medal match and became the Olympic champion again in Athens, Greek, 2004, on the condition that they lost the core member, Zhao ruirui, in the first competition.
