Bidding for and hosting the Olympics uccessfully is, perhaps, the ultimate glory for a city. However, before transforming the dream into reality, the benefits and drawbacks of bidding for the Olympics should be weighed carefully.
Hosting the Olympics surely would bring about much gain to a city. Boom of the local economy, more jobs, and the possibility of generating income all sound extremely attractive to the municipal government. At the same time, better infrastructure, cleaner environment, enjoying the spectacular game with hundreds of sports elites and entertainment stars, and the opportunity of contacting people from all over the world also seem exciting to the citizens. Besides, the bidding will definitely promote the patriotic emotion and pride, as well as the moral behavior in local people. In most cases, bidding for the Olympics is well supported by both the public and the central government.
Unfortunately, this is not the entire view of the pretty picture. If looking from another angle, the Olympic bid might bring about some side-effects to a city.
First of all, the environmental impacts, including the increasing exhaust fumes of cars, more pressure on water resources, huge amount of wasted leaflets and other materials used for public activities, are most probably neglected. In order to broaden the streets, some trees may have to be cut. Near the construction site, the tiny st may linger in the air for a long time. Rection of farmland may be caused by the need of setting up new sports centre or accommodation facilities. These environmental consequences can be especially serious in a resource-limited and densely-populated city in a third-world country.
Besides, if talking about the economic benefit, it should not be forgotten that a quick boosting may lead to bubble growth, which may easily crash. If not well managed and organized, the big event may not be so ofitable, and the new facilities may be forever empty after the games. Yes, there have been cases that host cities ended up with enormous debts.
Finally, let』s think about the low-income groups in the city. What will they get from the Olympics bidding? More tax, more fees, more expensive property prices, and higher cost of living. These definitely are not good news for them.
To bid or not to, this is a question. It is up to the choice of the municipal government, and the local public. After the decision, what they can do is to make the most of the benefit, and rece the drawbacks to the least

Before I introce our cultural programs, I want to tell you one thing first about 2008. You're going to have a great time in Beijing.
China has its own sport legends. Back to Song Dynasty, about the 11th century, people started to play a game called Cuju, which is regarded as the origin of ancient football. The game was very popular and women were also participating. Now, you will understand why our women football team is so good today.
Cultural events will unfold each year, from 2005 to 2008. During the Olympics, they will be staged in the Olympic Village and the city for the benefit of the athletes.

Yet the focus has shifted from making a promise to making good a promise after Beijing』s successful bid. In my opinion, to bridge the gap between a promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go. Here are some of my ideas on how to fill that gap.

So we have to work real hard on Green Olympics.

Thirdly, to add enchantment to convenience, an over-all city planning is indispensable. If time permits, a redesign of city layout and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for fostering the characteristics, blending oriental elegance with international grandeur, will tower a lot among surrounding architectures. To achieve such effects, Beijing shall solicit opinions from first-rate architects and make an overall plan.
盡管如此，要實現全世界對北京的期盼，北京還有許許多多工作要做。但我們有信心在2008年到來之前把北京建設成為一個全新的城市。巨大的變化每天都在這個城市發生，相信在不遠的將來，北京將會成為全世界關注的焦點。世界相信北京，這也是北京申奧成功的原因。我們一定會抓住這次機遇並為之全力以赴。今天，我們還沒有做好准備，但在2008年到來之前我們一定會准備好！

Being a volunteer is great!
No. 1 Middle School is home to three special young people: Xiao Hong, Xiao Ming and Xiao Gang, who spend several hours helping other people every week. Xiao Hong loves reading, so after class she helps young children to read in a primary school. Xiao Ming is fond of animals and he works in an animal hospital every Saturday. If I am an Olympic Volunteer
I』m a middle school student. I can use English to communicate with foreign guests and foreign players. I will tell them China』s history and culture. For example: The Great Wall. I will also tell them China』s some scientific achievements. For example: Chinese train progress history. I can help Chinese players clean the house. Let them live in the clean house. I can also help them pick the balls, bring them towels , and clean clothes……

I am a volunteer
The Olympic Games will be opened up just after a month in 2008. Toady is the volunteer recruited day. I got up earlier than before, after breakfast, walked to the Olympic Village full of enthusiasm.
The Olympic Village is very hilarious. All of the people are participating in the volunteer selected test. The test form mainly carries on interview which is different from my school』s five teachers made a term in which one person asks the question and other four people recorded something on the paper.
Because I have made enough preparation therefore the questions of teacher have not baffled me at all. From expression of teacher, I could guest that my answers were satisfied by them.
No surprising, I passed the test. I will be a volunteer honorable.
I was so excited that could not sleep that evening. The Olympic Games opening ceremony scene that I had seen before flashed in my head continually, imaging the scene which I was a volunteer in 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
