⑥ 小學英語指令語

Nunan()指出,英語課堂作為一個特殊的語言使用環境,教師的課堂言語行為在語言課堂教學中具有重要作用。姚仁環、洪微(2011)認為,教師指令語是課堂上教師組織各種教學活動、調控學生課堂行為時所使用的語言,教師用指令語或引導學生行為,或在活動前解釋與之相關的內容和操作程序。教師的指令直接關繫到課堂教學的成功與否,高效的課堂需要有效的課堂指令作為保證。

Ur(1996)認為,教師對某個學習活動的解釋在指令語中佔了相當大的比重,在整個課堂中起著舉足輕重的作用。Harmer(1998)從學生的理解角度提出教師指令語有兩個基本原則:一是指令語必須盡可能簡短,二是指令語必須富有邏輯。

二、課堂指令語應具備的要素

那麼如何設計有效的課堂指令語呢?筆者進行了三年的小學英語課堂指令語研究,通過對大量真實的教學案例的研究分析,筆者認為,課堂指令語除了應具備簡短、清晰、淺顯易懂等要素外,還應考慮以下幾個方面的要素。

(一)立足學生語言水平,注重語言習得

Ellis(1985)指出,在英語課堂上教師要抓住向學生輸入語言的機會,使輸入變為吸收。語言習得理論也指出,兒童習得語言的特點是簡單、清楚、有重復性。因此教師使用的指令應立足學生現有的語言水平,盡可能使用學生已經掌握的詞彙和句型,採用簡單、短小、准確的句子和學生交流,避免將簡單句子復雜化。設計符合學生認知水平和接受能力的有效指令語,保證教師指令能被學生所理解,才能幫助學生有效習得語言。反之,復雜、不清楚、超出學生理解能力的指令將會導致活動無效並且不利於學生習得語言。

一位教師在執教外研版《英語》(新標准)(供一年級起始用)第一冊Mole 10 Unit 1 Where's my pen?時,設計了猜測物品所在位置的游戲活動,用於操練「Where』s my pen? It's in the hat./It's on the hat./It's under the hat.」等主要句型。教師使用了指令「Now,let's play a guessing game.One student hides your things,and the other one guesses where they are.Understand? OK,one,two,begin!」但當教師的指令下達後,原本應該是一個很有趣的游戲活動,卻沒有出現熱火朝天的活動場面,只有少數基礎較好的學生開始活動,大部分學生不知所措,有的學生開始小聲講話。

分析上述指令,筆者發現,一年級的學生並不理解hide這個詞的意思,也不能立刻聽懂「One student hides your things,and the other one guesses where they are.」這樣一個復雜句型。因此教師的活動設計雖然有趣,卻因為學生不理解教師的指令語,導致活動無效。

如果教師能夠使用符合學生現有水平的語言,使用學生已經掌握的詞彙和句型詢問學生,因為理解了教師的指令,學生一定會被這樣一個有趣的活動所吸引,從而更快、更好地參與學習活動。如用「Look,where』s my pencil? Can you guess?」詢問學生;用「It's in the pencil-box.It's in the school bag.」引導學生猜測鋼筆所在的位置;再用「Please play this game like this with your partner.」組織全體學生開展活動等。

因此,教師在備課時需了解並分析學生的現有水平,保證教師指令語能為學生所理解,從而幫助學生有效習得語言。

好的課堂要有好的紀律,要達到較好的教學效果,我們應該要做好充分的准備。

1. 創新口令,達成共識。

在英語課堂中,最常用的口令莫過於:「one, two, three, sit up straight.」 「one, two, three, ABC.」對於這個口令,在一節課中如果老師總是念one two three太多次的話,學生也無所謂了。這些口令可以是一句歌曲,學生接下一句歌曲。在我二年級教授的班級,我製作了 「good」的貼紙代替小貼紙,這些「good」對他們來說非常重要,因此,在這個貼紙上,我和孩子們一起想了一個和它密切相關的口令,當他們開始沒坐直的時候,我會說:「Look,look, you give me good?」 學生看到我做 「look」,的動作時,已經馬上坐好了,同時回答我:「no, no, no good」. 當時如果有學生坐得不好,或者反應太慢,就要被沒收自己的一張good了。

課堂的口令還有很多,但是如果是老師自己和學生創造的,那麼他們會更加註意,而且會覺得很有趣。在教學過程中,老師一定要了解自己的學生,和他們一起創造出屬於自己的語言,達到共識是最好的辦法。

2、創新評價方式,吸引學生

我們都知道小學生活潑好動,特別是低年級的學生,自製力差,容易興奮,活動起來,課堂秩序很混亂,特別是當老師所設計的課堂不吸引學生的興趣的話,那更是增加了英語教師對課堂組織、調控的難度。

很多老師利用加分的方式來給小組比賽。特別是低段或者是中段的學生,評價方式要有效性,有趣性。不然學生根本就不理睬你在黑板上加分。在曾老師的課堂中,我看到這樣的評價方式。每一組得的一分,就畫一個笑臉。學生對於笑臉似乎不感興趣。我們一起討論了這個問題,得出的結論是,老師畫笑臉比較費時間,而且比較枯燥無味,也許他們想就算得到很多笑臉又怎樣,還不就是一個貼紙。我們在畫笑臉的基礎上,其實可以做一些改變,把評價方式變得有趣一些。畫笑臉的時候,可以把笑臉的鼻子眼睛嘴巴,甚至嘴巴裡面的牙齒分開來畫。我最記得,大嘴巴裡面的牙齒是學生最喜歡的。他們從一個沒牙的寶寶,變成了滿口牙齒的小孩。他們感到那份成就感,在整個過程中都害怕自己的牙齒比別人少,所以很努力去做好這一切。

除了創新,還可以與時俱進。上學期開始就流行的喜洋洋和灰太狼,我們就可以馬上利用起來了。我總是當灰太狼,然後每次都會故意輸給他們,表演他們實在太厲害,並說了灰太狼的名言:「我一定會回來的」,到了下節課,他們又要跟我比賽。覺得特別開心,特別好玩,也特別有用。

3、合作精神,師生共處。

在課堂中,做一個傳授者、組織者和控制者,還不如做一個「合作者」。老師不用自己滔滔不絕地講,而學生只是當「觀眾」。為了課堂紀律,學生很少發言的機會,這是非常不好的。長此以來,必然不利於全方位地提高學生聽、說、讀、寫能力,而且學生產生厭煩抵觸情緒,也很難調動起學習英語的積極性,使課堂教學無法達到預定的效果。我們可以一些 「works in pairs」或「act out the dialogue」, 「act out the story」。 老師可以做示範,動作可以誇張點,學生發揮自己的想像等等。這是時候的紀律就要結合第1和第2點,給學生及時表揚,給小組及時加分,使紀律與自由相結合。

要想搞好小學英語課堂紀律,英語教師要多動腦經,多想辦法,了解自己班級的學生的喜好。使課堂成為活潑又有序的課堂。
