說說我的理解

主語：Few things 謂語：could be more impressive 賓語：the peace

後面一堆都是修飾the peace 的定語從句。

什麼樣的peace呢？the peace that descends on deserted city streets at weekends 在周末降臨在城市街道的peace

weekends發生了什麼呢？when the thousands that travel to work every day are tucked away in their homes in the country. 當大家都回鄉下去了（隨便翻譯的，意思明白就好）。

把握好這幾點，理解就很容易：沒有什麼比（當周末大家都回鄉下的家去，而在城市街道降臨的）那種寧靜更令人難忘。

41課 very.是「It is not very heavy.」的省略形式，常用於口語中a pieice of,一塊，一張，一片，用在不可數名詞前，表示數量，又如：a piece of bread,一片麵包。43課make the tea,沏茶over there是指「在那邊」，指比較遠的地方。在there are some in the cupboard中，some是代詞，指some cups.hurry up,趕快，在祈使句中用來催促他人。45課Can you come here a minute piease,Bob?句中的can是情態動詞，表示能力。情態動詞的否定式由情態動詞加not構成；疑問句中情態動詞至於句首，後接句子和主要謂語動詞。47課Doyou want a cup?句中的a cup後面省略了of coffee.英語中的動詞主要有及物動詞和不及物動詞兩大類，及物動詞後面要有名詞或名詞性短語作賓語。like和want都是及物動詞。biack coffee是指不加牛奶或咖啡伴侶的咖啡，加牛奶的咖啡叫white coffee。49課I like lamb，but my husband dosen』t.句中的dosen『t後面省略了like lamb。用but連接的並列句，在後一分句中可以省略與前一分句中相同的謂語動詞和賓語。51課Where do you come from？用於問對方是哪兒的人，在第7課中出現過一個類似的句子。What』s the climate likein your country？句中like是介詞，不是動詞，它的賓語是what。53課略55課帶某人去xx take sb to xx57課It is o'clock.現在是8點鍾。在英語中常用it來指時間、天氣、溫度、或距離。這種it被稱為「虛主語」。59課要注意動詞的變化61課What』s the matter with...常用來詢問人或事物的狀況，常作「是否有問題」「是否有麻煩」講。以上是41~62課的單數課文 雙數課文省略。

Nearly a week passed before the girl was able to explain what had happened to her.One afternoon she set out from the coast in a small boat and was caught in a storm. Towards evening, the boat struck a rock and the girl jumped into the sea. Then she swam to the shore after spending the whole night in the water. During that time she covered a distance of eight miles. Early next morning, she saw a light ahead. She knew she was near the shore because the light was high up on the cliffs. On arriving at the shore, the girl struggled up the cliff towards the light she had seen. That was all she remembered. When she woke up a day later, she found herself in hospital.
