英語中的主語第三人稱單數情況一般是人稱代詞,she,it或單數名詞及指示代詞this,that等。一般現在時態中,主語若為「三單」，則謂語動詞也要為三單形式。

動詞第三人稱單數的變化規則及發音規律
動詞原形變第三人稱單數的規則與發音規律同名詞單數變復數大致相同
1、大多數動詞在詞尾加「s」，在清輔音後發音為[s]，在濁輔音及母音後發音為 [z]。如：
①stop－stops [s] ; make－makes [s]
②read－reads [z] ; play－plays [z]
2、以輔音字母加「y」結尾的，要先將「y」變為「i」，然後在加「es」，讀[iz] （以母音字母加「y」結尾的，直接加s）如：
fly－flies [z]； carry－carries [z]
study－studies [z]; worry－worries
play-plays； say-says
3、以「s, x, ch, sh」結尾的，在詞尾加「es」，發音為[iz] 如：

下面幾個動詞變為單數時，原詞的母音部分的發音發生了較大的變化，如：

我覺得動詞三單和動詞ing形式的變化規則在書本後面的語法教學部分已經列舉得很詳盡了，至於要雙寫再加ing的動詞，在目前應該有：put，get，sit，chat，run，listen，begin，stop，shop，swim，dig等

動詞ing的變化規則：
1、一般情況直接＋ing
例:sweep-sweeping read-reading
2、以不發音e結尾的去e＋ing
例：take-taking make-making have-having
ride-riding
3、重讀閉音節且只以一個輔音字母結尾，雙寫這個輔音字母＋ing
例：shop-shopping sit-sitting swim-swimming
