7.抄錄和記憶句子和慣用語時要用單數第一人稱，如"I am only pulling your leg"(我只是要戲弄你)
8.外語好比碉堡，必須同時從四面八方向它圍攻：讀報紙，聽廣播，看原文電影，聽外語講演，攻讀課本，和外國朋友通訊，來往，交談等等。
9.要敢於說話，不要怕出錯誤，要請別人糾正錯誤。尤為重要的是當別人糾正錯誤時，不要難為情，不要泄氣。
10.要堅信自己一定能達到目的，要堅信自己有堅強不屈的毅力和語言方面的非凡才能。

It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work.
