孔子(公元前551--公元前479)，名丘,字仲尼，春秋末期魯國陬邑(今山東曲阜市東南)人。 孔子是我國古代著名的思想家、教育家、儒家學派創始人。相傳有弟子三千，賢弟子七十二人，孔子曾帶領弟子周遊列國14年。孔子還是一位古文獻整理家，曾修《詩》、《書》，定《禮》、《樂》，序《周易》，作《春秋》。孔子的思想及學說對後世產生了極其深遠的影響。 孔子生平: 孔子的遠祖是宋國貴族，殷王室的後裔。周武王滅殷後，封殷宗室微子啟於宋。由微子經微仲衍、宋公稽、丁公申，四傳至泯公共。泯公長子弗父何讓國於其弟鮒祀。弗父何為卿。孔子先祖遂由諸候家轉為公卿之家。弗父何之曾孫正考父，連續輔佐宋戴公、武公、宣公，久為上卿，以謙恭著稱於世。孔子六祖孔父嘉繼任宋大司馬。按周禮制，大夫不得祖諸候，「五世親盡，別為公候」，故其後代以孔為氏。後宋太宰華父督作亂，弒宋殤公，殺孔父嘉。其後代避難奔魯（孔氏為魯國人自此始），卿位始失，下降為士。孔子曾祖父防叔曾任魯防邑宰。祖父伯夏的事跡無考。父親名紇，字叔，又稱叔梁紇，為一名武士，以勇力著稱。叔梁紇先娶施氏，無子，其妾生男，病足，復娶顏徵在，生孔子。 孔子生年一般按《史記·孔子世家》所記為魯襄公二十二年，而生月生日《史記》未記，按《穀梁傳》所記「十月庚子孔子生」。換算為當今之公歷應為公元前551年9月8日生。 孔子生在魯國。魯國為周公旦之子伯禽封地，對周代文物典籍保存完好，素有「禮樂之邦」之稱。魯襄公二十九年（前544年）吳公子季札觀樂於魯，嘆為觀止。魯昭公二年（前540年）晉大夫韓宣子訪魯，觀書後贊嘆「周禮盡在魯矣！」魯國文化傳統與當時學術下移的形勢對孔子思想的形成有很大影響。 孔子早年喪父，家境衰落。他曾說過：「吾少也賤，故多能鄙事。」年輕時曾做過「委吏」（管理倉廩）與「乘田」（管放牧牛羊）。雖然生活貧苦，孔子十五歲即「志於學」。他善於取法他人，曾說：「三人行，必有吾師焉。擇其善者而從之，其不善者而改之。」（《論語·述而》）他學無常師，好學不厭，鄉人也贊他「博學」。 孔子「三十而立」，並開始授徒講學。凡帶上一點「束修」的，都收為學生。如顏路、曾點、子路、伯牛、冉有、子貢、顏淵等，是較早的一批弟子。連魯大夫孟僖子其子孟懿子和南宮敬叔來學禮，可見孔子辦學已名聞遐邇。私學的創設，打破了「學在官府」的傳統，進一步促進了學術文化的下移。
